Apple’s iTunes Match service is getting a very significant upgrade in the next version of iOS that will make it far more competitive with the growing number of cloud-based music service competitors.
The biggest problem with Apple’s overall push to the cloud was its treatment of music. It’s true that you can access virtually any song, but the company’s iTunes Match cloud service currently treats them like files, which you can only download where there’s an available internet connection. Controversial clean power line is finally live

But now the Sunrise Powerlink — a transmission line to ferry clean power like solar and wind from California?s desert to its southern coastal region — is done and live, according to its owner San Diego Gas & Electric on Monday.
The nearly $1.9 billion project erected giant towers and built both above ground and underground cables that now run over 110 miles from Imperial Valley to San Diego?s territory. Square steals Salesforce SVP Sarah Friar, will be named CFO

Rapidly expanding mobile payments startup Square has hired Salesforce SVP Sarah Friar to be its new CFO, the company announced this morning.
Square is now processing $6 billion in annual payments and has its sights set on international expansion. The company has more than 1 million accounts accepting credit cards.
“Square was founded on a commitment to help people start and grow their business,” Friar said, in a statement. “I’m thrilled to join a company driving meaningful economic growth while revolutionizing the payment experience for consumers.”
Prior to this position, Friar served as senior VP of finance and strategy at Salesforce for a little over a year. B[...]

Obama Order Targets Cost of Broadband Deployment

U.S. President Barack Obama will sign an executive order Thursday intended to make it less expensive for broadband providers to install lines and equipment on federal lands and also federal roads.
The executive order, announced by the White House Wednesday, will require federal agencies to adopt uniform rules for allowing broadband carriers to build networks on and through federal property, and it requires the U.S. Department of Transportation to help carriers time their broadband deployments at the same time that streets are under construction.
